Box Office Review - Death at a Funeral

Death at a Funeral is a dark comedy that is not willing to go far enough, even though it wants to. The best thing about the movie is the casting. Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Keith David, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover, Peter Dinklage, and James Marsden all star in this madcap comedy. All of them play very straight roles, except for Tracy Morgan and James Marsden. I doubt that Morgan is capable of playing a straight role, and Marsden is supposed to be way over the top, as he is on drugs the entire film. He does a very good job, and I found his part the funniest. The laughs in the movie were plenty, but there were major gaps between each big laugh. The comedy rides a lot on how much you like the actors involved. The story is nothing special, and there is not much character development to speak of. The movie just moves from gag to gag, but thankfully is easily watchable. While nothing special or memorable, you could do far worse then Death at a Funeral. If you are old enough to see this, then you are old enough to see Kick Ass. Go see that and leave this film for the cheap theater. It is definitely worth the three bucks .
