Here are a couple films I recently watched, but haven't had time to do full reviews for.

The Fighter

This is the third film that director David O Russell and actor Mark Wahlberg have made together. It is obvious that they have a good working relationship because they seem to get the best out of each other. The Fighter is an impressive story about boxing and family that features four great performances. The previously mentioned Mark Wahlberg gives one of his good performances as boxer Micky Ward. Ward is a boxing who has the chance of becoming a world champion boxer. Unfortunately he is held back by his crack addicted trainer brother Dicky and his over bearing manager mother Alice. Dicky is played by Christian Bale and Alice is played by Melisa Leo. Both physically transform themselves for their roles and both performances are fantastic. The fourth great performance is Amy Adams as Micky's love interest Charlene. Everything about The Fighter works. The film is perfectly balanced with humour and drama not to mention features some extremely well filmed boxing matches. One of the best sports films in a long time, and a proof that boxing is the best sport for the big screen.

Rabbit Hole

Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play grieving parents who have lost their only child. Both of them are dealing with this loss in different ways. This puts a real strain on their marriage. Rabbit Hole does a good job a making both parents sympathetic characters. Neither of their actions are unrealistic responses to the major tragedy that occurred in their life. Both Kidman and Eckhart give impressive performances as the grieving parents and I would go as far as saying that this could be Kidman's best performance. The film while at times is extremely sad, but the overall message is about forgiveness and hope for a better future. I was very impressed with this film.
