Banana A Day - Tales of the Black Freighter/Under The Hood

Zack Snyder's vision of Watchmen continues with the release of Watchmen: tales of the Black Freighter/Under The Hood. The watchmen comic featured a in story comic (Black Freighter) that parallels characters in the book . As an animated film I found more appreciation for this part of the comic. The animation style is not one that I enjoy, but the story is so well told that I didn't mind it. Gerard Butler is the voice of the main character and he does a good job. Under the Hood is interesting, but I don't feel that it has as much re watch value as Black Freighter. In the comic Under the Hood was a tell all book written by Hollis Mason about being a superhero. On the DVD this story is told as a news story similar in style to Sixty Minutes. The best part of it is all the still photography of the minutemen. The way that these photos capture the time period is fantastic. The interviews with the different super heroes are interesting, but I didn't feel that I learned any more about the characters. If you are a fan of the comic than you will appreciate these films, but if you have never read the source material, there is no need to buy the disc.
