Box Office Review - 44 Inch Chest

44 Inch Chest works when the actors are allowed to let the dialogue flow and it fails when the story gets too complex. Really there was no reason for the story to get as complicated as it did, because the basic premise is great. Ray Winstone plays a husband whose wife has cheated on him. His friends played by John Hurt, Ian McShane, Tom Wilkinson, and Dave Leganon kidnap the guy responsible and take him prisoner. That should be enough for the film to work, but then the movie starts to explore Winstone’s psyche and it becomes a bit of a bore. These scenes are much like the film Revolver, except that film was entirely based on that concept and this is not. 44 Inch Chest would have been a classic if it had just let these great actors do their thing.
