What I Watched Last Week

Torrance Rising
This short documentary is from the Spike Jonze video collection. It chronicles the live performance of the dancers from Fatboy Slims music bide Praise you at the MTV Music Video Awards. It is crazy how few people where in on the joke at the time, proving what a genius Spike Jonse really is.

Two Mules for Sister Sarah

This is a solid Clint Eastwood western that is as exciting as it is funny. There is a very long scene where Shirley Maclane (Sister Sarah) has to cauterize an arrow wound in Eastwood’s shoulder. That scene is awesome.

From Paris With Love

What this for the second time and still got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Black Dynamite

One of the best movies from last year, and a solid send-up to Blaxploitaion films, Black Dynamite delivers. Everything in this movie is authentic and hilarious. There is talk of a sequel maybe happening, and I hope it does. Captain Kangaroo Pimp’s character needs to be explored.

The Abyss

This is the only James Cameron movie I had yet to see. It is a solid movie with some great underwater photography. Cameron really excels at writing for everyday working man characters. The effects are great for being made twenty one years ago.

Revenge of the Nerds

This flick was okay, but nothing really special. It is ironic that in order for the nerds to get revenge they basically become jerks just like the jocks. One of the main characters Louis Skolnik even kind of rapes one of the popular girls.

A Serious Man

This movie is very good. It can be watched and dissected or just watched for pure enjoyment. Sy Ableman is one of the most memorable characters from 2009.
