Box Office Review - Date Night

You would think that Date Night would be good based on the pairing of Tina Fey and Steve Carrel. If they had a hand in writing the movie it probably would have been, but unfortunately they didn’t. Date Night is a film the reeks of mediocrity. Nothing in the film is fresh or new. If you have seen a few of these adult based family comedies then you will be able to predict every scene that happens. This film is guilty of one of the seven deadly sins, Sloth. The movie was not funny and everyone involved seems to have signed up simply for the pay check. I have no problem with actors doing this. Everyone needs to get payed and support their families, but the pairing of two of the funniest people on television should have resulted in hilarity not mediocrity. One thing that Date Night has going for it, is that it stays grounded in reality. Well except for a certain car chase that is absolutely absurd. This movie is aimed at married couples who are looking for a movie that will be good for their own Date Night. I am not sure if this film suits that. The movie is about a couple who has drifted apart because of the business of life. They are brought back because of mistaken identity, the possibility of death, and an underground sex club. If that is whats needed to rekindle a relationship, wont most married couples come out of the movie with a feeling of hopelessness?
