Box Office Review - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

By now most people know if their fans of Harry Potter. If you love the series than you will love this movie. If you are not a fan than this film isn't going change anything. Aside from the length of the film I enjoyed this film as much as the previous films.

The best thing about the Potter series has been the directors hired to handle each film. Every director seems to perfectly capture the feeling off each book. This series could have pandered to it's fan base like Twilight does, but instead these later films have contained some impressive visuals and interesting takes on the books. Deathly Hallows pt1 sets itself apart from the rest of the series by taking the main three characters and thrusts them into the big wide world. Instead of focusing on a wide berth of characters, the movie focuses on the relationship of Harry, Ron and Hermonie. There are a few scenes where old characters show up just to remind the audience that they are still alive but almost half the film focuses entirely on the three main characters travelling around and camping. This is the part that works the best in the film. The other scenes involve the characters either sneaking around or being chased by Death Eaters. These scenes conveniently use magic to get out of a of peril. It always seems like when one of the main characters gets hurt or is in trouble there is a potion or spell to help them out. The same can't be said for the supporting characters. If one of them gets into trouble no magic can save them. If I wasn't a fan of the series I would use this as a point to bash the series.

Since I am a fan I over look this fault. David Yates has directed the last two films and he has done an impressive job. He shoots underwater scenes extremely well, and his chase scenes have a high level of intensity. I wish though that Deathly Hallows had been trimmed by about twenty minutes. I honestly thought the film could have ended half way through and I would have been satisfied. Deathly Hallows pt 1 is as good as the previous entries and I am looking forward to the conclusion next year.
