This was the first movie directed by Hal Needham who also did Cannonball Run. Unlike CR, Smokey and the Bandit is actually enjoyable. There is almost no story to this movie, and it doesn't really matter, because of the fast cars and even faster dialogue. My favorite part is the dialogue, and the way that it feels so natural coming from actors like Burt Reynolds and Sally Field. As truck driving movies go, I prefer Over The Top, but S&TB has a way of putting a smile on your face.

Banana A Day - Smokey and the Bandit
