Directed by Peter Hyams, who also directed my favorite buddy comedy Running Scared. This film is different than 2001 which is understable because no one can catch the magic of Kubrick. The movie is actualy pretty good. Basically the crew of this film is sent to find the ship the Discovery from the first movie, and find out what happend with Hal. Just like Event Horizon, or Sunshine, except you have the back story of what happened on the ship from the first movie. This is an interesting concept and it works well. The style of the movie is closer to Alien then 2001, and when it does try to copy 2001's style it doesnt work that well. The cast is solid with Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, and Hellen Mirren. It isn't 2001: A Space Odessey, but it is a good film in its own right, and should be checked out if you enjoyed the first one.
